Who we are
 

Venturing Crew 27 is located in San Mateo, California in the Redwood District of the Pacific Skyline Council of the Boy Scouts of America. The Crew meets the first and third Tuesdays of each month at 7:30 pm at the Hillsdale United Methodist Church at the corner of 36th and Hacienda, one block south of Hillsdale Avenue (see map).

Boys and Girls age 14 (and in High School or college) through age 20 are welcome to come and see what we are about. We offer every youth who comes into our crew the chance to have fun while learning skills and responsibilities that will last a lifetime. Our objective is that all youth participating in our crew feels they have had a challenging, rewarding and enjoyable experience.

  • The Crew is associated with Troop 27 Established in 1951 (click here to see the history of the troop)
  • It is a youth-led Crew mentored by adult advisors
  • Consistently achieves the BSA Quality Unit status
  • Crew activities:
    • a crew meeting 1st & 3rd Tuesdays
    • focussed on high adventure (rafting, hiking, climbing, canoeing, kayaking . . .)
    • an overnight activity each month
    • provides support for the troop week-long summer camp, built from scratch on a high Sierra lake.
    • an all-night new years eve video game party
    • a week to 2 week long "Supertrip" either domestic or Foreign. The Crew has gone Trekking in Iceland(2000), Boating and hiking in Shasta(2001), Kayaking the San Juan Islands on the Washington/Canadia border(2002), Trekking in Australia (2003) , Canoeing/Trekking in British Colombia (2004), NorCal Adventure 110mi hike canoe trek (2005), NordJamb Iceland (2006), Oregon White Water Canoe & Climbing (2007), Sailing-Climbing-Rafting-California (2008)
  • Community services
    • Scouting for Food - contributing food to local food banks during the holidays
    • Flag placing at Skylawn Memorial Park on Memorial Day
    • Assist with the Samaritan house during the holidays
    • Trail rebuilding in camps
    • Major conservation projects associated with Bronze Gold and Silver awards
